'You Can't Teach Tall!' Mavs Sign 7-5 Center Jamarion Sharp; Can He Play? Dallas Tracker
AUG 3 CAN HE PLAY? Dallas Mavericks Summer League big man - really big man - Jamarion Sharp - is signing a one-year deal with the Mavs.
This is likely a training camp deal, but it is still significant on two fronts.
One, he's 7-5.
And two, the Texas Legends of the G League could end up as a developmental landing spot for Sharp.
But ... can he play?
Sharp participated in five games for the Mavs team in Vegas, contributing 2.6 points and 4.6 rebounds after having spent his final collegiate year at Ole Miss, where he averaged 3.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
This is obviously worth a shot, if only due to the truth of an old basketball adage: You can't teach tall.
AUGUST 2 DANTE EXUM PUNCHES RIM WHILE RECEIVING SIMILAR BLOW Although Australia lost to Greece in the Paris Olympics, at least it walked away with possibly the best dunk of the international grand spectacle. Dante Exum finished six points, but one of his field goals caused quite a reaction among the enthusiastic Olympic crowd.
Exum went up for the slam but received a punch to the face for his efforts.
Although the strike to the face hurt, the loss to Greece caused a deeper pain as Australia awaits the results of the Olympic playoffs qualifier following its loss to Greece.

AUG 2 WARMTH P.J. Washington was locked in to start his NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks during the middle of the 2023-24 season. ... which worked out very nicely, of course.
Along his path, though, he was teammates in Charlotte with Gordon Hayward, who has just announced his retirement - "an incredible ride,'' he called it.
On Thursday, PJ followed up on the Hayward announcement on Instagram with his own remark, Washington writing, "Pleasure being able share the floor with you bro, Congrats on a great career 🙏🏽"
