One Key Mavericks Player 'Loves' to beat Thunder

P.J. Washington’s standout performance leads the Dallas Mavericks to a thrilling victory over the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Dallas Mavericks, playing without Luka Doncic, delivered a statement win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road at Paycom Center, narrowly securing a 121-119 victory.

The absence of Doncic, ruled out hours before the game with a right knee contusion, created an opportunity for Dallas' depth to shine—and forward P.J. Washington did not disappoint.

Washington, recently returned from injury, spearheaded the Mavericks’ effort with a standout performance, recording 27 points, 17 rebounds, two assists, and a block. His contributions were pivotal in overcoming the Western Conference's top team and solidifying Dallas' status as a force in the West.

“I love playing here. I love this gym. I love obviously beating them too. It was a great win for us, and I was just ready to play tonight,” Washington said postgame.

His enthusiasm was matched by his team’s intensity on the boards, where Dallas logged 53 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end, to outwork Oklahoma City.

Dallas also leaned on its bench, which contributed 50 points, 24 rebounds, and five assists. Players like Jaden Hardy and Quentin Grimes stepped up to help offset the loss of Doncic. The Mavericks’ balanced attack included shooting 47.6 percent from the field and an impressive 40.7 percent from three-point range.

The Mavericks now turn their focus to the New Orleans Pelicans, who they will face at American Airlines Center on Nov. 19. With Luka Doncic’s potential return looming, Dallas aims to sustain its momentum and continue climbing the standings as they face off against a struggling 4-10 Pelicans team. If Doncic remains sidelined, the Mavs bench and depth players will continue to be heavily relied upon.
