NBA Insider Praises Spencer Dinwiddie’s Mavericks Fit

One NBA insider praised Spencer Dinwiddie's Dallas Mavericks fit after he signed a one-year deal with the franchise earlier this week.

The Dallas Mavericks had many choices for their final roster spot. Moreover, the two candidates who seemed like favorites, at least in the fans' eyes, were former Mavs guards. When the report of Dallas signing Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal was released, the reunion invoked memories of the 2022 NBA playoffs.

On a recent episode of ESPN's Pat McAfee show, NBA insider Shams Charania explained Dinwiddie's fit with the current Mavs' roster.

“He can start. He can come off the bench. He can play 6th man role. He can play defense and shoot the ball. Spencer Dinwiddie has already shown he can be ideal next to Luka Doncic," Charania stated.

Although Dinwiddie's Los Angeles Lakers stint will ultimately fall on deaf ears during a forgettable year, what's not forgotten is the guard's 30-point performance in Game 7 vs the Phoenix Suns in the 2022 postseason. In a seemingly more minor role, Dinwiddie won't need to produce such heroic stat lines, but at least he's shown the capability of supporting Luka Doncic in timely moments.

Now, with a roster riddled with talent, the most in the Doncic-Mavs era, Dinwiddie has a chance to compete for an NBA championship in a more reserved role as a backup guard next to Jaden Hardy.

During the 76 games he played with the Mavericks, Dinwiddie averaged 17 points and shot an efficient 40 percent from the 3-point line. Entering his 11th NBA season, Dinwiddie has his best chance to compete in his first NBA Finals.
