T'Wolves HC Chris Finch Takes Shot at Mavs Ahead of Game 5: Anthony Edwards vs. Luka Doncic 'Illegal Screens?'
Ahead of Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, T'Wolves head coach Chris Finch has officially started the trash talking before the teams make it to the court for tip-off.
After scraping by with a 105-100 win in Game 4 to trim their series deficit to 3-1, Finch's T'Wolves believe they've found something to lean on when it comes to guarding Luka Doncic. For the first time this series, Anthony Edwards spent most of his time guarding Doncic one-on-one in Game 4, and Doncic ended up shooting 7-21 from the floor.
How was Edwards able to be so effective on Doncic? Coach Finch believes it was his star's ability to navigate through Dallas' "illegal screens" that get set for No. 77.
“[Edwards] does a better job of getting over all those illegal screens they set for Luka," Finch said.
To be fair to Finch, it's understandable that he's in a cruddy mood, given that his team is in such a massive series hole. However, it is a little ironic that he's complaining about illegal screens when he coaches players like Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson, who set several illegal screens that don't get called by the officials on a nightly basis.
Perhaps Finch feels that his inevitable vacation is nearing, and this is his way of coping with that realization. Or maybe he's trying to influence how the officials call Game 5 in hopes of gaining an advantage to extend the series to a Game 6. Either way, we doubt this will be the only trash talk that happens between the Mavs and T'Wolves on Thursday night.
