Mavs Luka Doncic's Favorite 'Underrated' Player Signs with Miami Heat: Free Agency Tracker

Alec Burks, one of Luka Doncic's favorite players to watch, signed with the Miami Heat.

JULY 3 MIAMI SIGNS DONCIC'S GUY In a busy offseason, the Miami Heat haven't done anything of note. However, one free-agent signing, in particular, catches Luka Doncic's attention.

During the 2021 NBA Playoffs, the New York Knicks were playing the Atlanta Hawks. As Doncic did his best live-tweeting impression of your favorite social media follower, he flatteringly complimented Alec Burks: "Alec Burks is so underrated! What a game! So nice to watch."

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Miami signed Burks for one season, with financial details not yet reported.

Burks split the 2023-2024 season between the Detroit Pistons and the Knicks.

JULY 2 LEBRON JAMES PUTS ONE-WEEK TIMELINE ON LAKERS After losing out on Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers haven't done anything to impress LeBron James. In light of the Lakers' failure to improve the roster, James has put their front office on the clock.

According to Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, James will give the Lakers a week to do something significant with the roster. The Lakers have reportedly been in contact with the Portland Trail Blazers regarding a trade for Jerami Grant.

However, merely inquiring about players won't do. James' patience wanes as the free-agent market slims and the Lakers continue to stall. Although reports indicate James will re-sign with the Lakers after opting out of his player option, James continues to pressure Los Angeles general manager Rob Pelinka into trading for someone meaningful.

JULY 2 STOTTS MOVES A pair of significant figures in Mavs history are teaming up with the Golden State Warriors.

Head coach Steve Kerr has hired a new right-hand man in the veteran coach Terry Stotts. And the Warriors are also hiring Jerry Stackhouse to complete their coaching staff.

Stotts was recently on the former Milwaukee Bucks' coaching staff. Stotts helped lead the Portland Trail Blazers to the 2019 Western Conference Finals.

Considering Stotts' significant experience - he won a title as a Dallas assistant alongside Rick Carlisle and was with the Warriors earlier in his career - Kerr named the former Portland head coach the lead assistant.

Stackhouse, who played in the league for a notable 18 years, was featured in Dallas as a player from 2004 to 2009 and was a member of the 2006 Mavs team that went to the Finals. He was most recently the coach at Vanderbilt.
