Bronny James Medically Cleared to Play in NBA; Could He Join LeBron with Dallas Mavericks?
Over the last year, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been vocal about wanting to play alongside his son, Bronny James, in the NBA, and that scenario could become a reality in the next two months if things break right.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Bronny had been cleared to play in the NBA and is planning to stay in the draft instead of retiring to USC for a second year of college basketball.
“Sources: Bronny James is expected to stay in the 2024 NBA Draft,” Charania wrote on X. “The USC freshman has been fully cleared to play in the league as part of Fitness to Play panel and will participate in all pre-draft activities starting with the Draft Combine this week.”
As things currently stand, Bronny isn’t on many NBA mock drafts, meaning he could potentially go undrafted. However, the Dallas Mavericks have the No. 58 pick in this year’s draft and could create a wave of speculation by selecting Bronny a week before free agency begins.
LeBron, who has the option to opt out of the last year of his contract with the Lakers, has been linked to the Mavs in several rumors over the last 12 months, including last summer when Kyrie Irving reached out to him in an attempt to recruit him to Dallas. Given how competitive the Mavs have been in comparison to the Lakers this postseason, it’s easy to see why LeBron, who is in the final chapter of his legendary car career, would consider making the move to Dallas for one more legitimate push for a championship.
Irving, Luka Doncic, head coach Jason Kidd and GM Nico Harrison are all people LeBron has significant admiration for. If the Mavs end up drafting his son, Bronny, that could be the move that officially turns a pipe-dream into reality.
